24/Cefinn - Joy Montgomery
We asked editor Joy Montgomery from Who What Wear to share how she styles her favourite Cefinn pieces.
From days in the park to date night, we’re loving Joy's - aka The Secondhand Shopper's - vintage take on our key styles this season.
As much as I would like to, I don’t think I could ever pull off the Kate Moss c.2005 Glasto look. Instead, my fantasy festival get-up focuses more on retro separates: Think wide leg trousers, two-tone boots and a silky sleeveless blouse. Okay, so perhaps this is more Wilderness glamping than mud-soaked Glastonbury, but if festivals aren’t a chance to wear what makes you feel good, then when is? I’ll bring wellies too, I promise.
I love how brunch has become the occasion to show off your finest wardrobe wares. Forget nightclubs and weddings, because Americanos and avocado on toast is where it’s at. For me, I like to keep it casual with slouchy jeans (I'll only wear low-rise if the trouser leg is suitably loose) and flat sandals, then add polish via my favourite vintage plisse blouse and Cefinn’s immaculately tailored blazer. After all, it’s all about smart layers during the unpredictable British summer.
If it isn’t abundantly clear by now, I love a retro look, especially when it comes with a ‘70s spin. Well, you don’t get much more ‘70s than a white suit styled with a frou frou ruffled silk blouse. Very Bianca Jagger, if I do say so myself. As someone who is ambivalent about dresses, a suit also presents a fun and stylish way to interpret a black tie dress code. Just add a pair of colour-pop mules and you’re good to go.
I have long been a fan of the 'throw-on-and-go' jumpsuit, and this standout grass-green number is exactly what I want to wear for a low-key occasion, such as a picnic in the park. With its elasticated waistband and loose fit, it gives plenty of room for movement (read: sandwiches) without compromising on style. I’d accessorise with oversized sunnies, a cross-body bag and chunky sandals for a ‘70s-meets-2021 look.
The Hudson dress is probably my highlight of the collection. Of course, it would look amazing by itself, particularly in a work context, but the moment I saw it I knew it would be the perfect dress to layer over tailored trousers – a chic styling trick I saw all over the AW21 runways. I would recommend sticking to a limited colour palette (for example I've chosen black and navy) to create a suitably striking look. Just add heeled sandals and a slick of red lipstick for a Parisian-inspired dinner ensemble.
